Andrea Božić and Julia Willms have contributed the text Undoing What We Know: Dramaturgy As Cosmology-in-the-Making to the book The Practice of Dramaturgy: Working on Actions in Performance edited by Konstantina Georgelou, Efrosini Protopapa, Danae Theodoridou, published by Valiz. The book comes out in Januayr 2018. Order it here.

'There is a growing interest in the notion and practice of dramaturgy, which is often discussed either as the work of the dramaturg, or as the compositional, cohesive or sense-making aspects of a performance. Drawing on such views, The Practice of Dramaturgy addresses dramaturgy as a shared, politicized and catalytic practice that sets actions into motion in a more speculative rather than an instructive way.

With contributions by Una Bauer, Simon Bayly, Andrea Božić, Nicola Conibere, Guy Cools, Augusto Corrieri, Konstantina Georgelou, Ivana Müller, Betina Panagiotara, Efrosini Protopapa, Joachim Robbrecht, Jonas Rutgeerts, Nienke Scholts, Arabella Stanger, Danae Theodoridou, Julia Willms, Jasna Jasna Žmak

What started in 2014 as a mini-festival by initiators/peers Nicole Beutler, Keren Levi and Andrea Božić, to gather and show their work alongside each other, grew into a second edition in 2015 including works by Amsterdam artists of all generations and disciplines such as music, dance and contemporary art.

We are now at the beginning of a new arts funding period - an exciting time full of uncertainty and questions - COME TOGETHER # 3 grows again and acts as an appeal to the Amsterdam art field to come together and demonstrate that the field is still very much alive and kicking. COME TOGETHER # 3 is a performed manifesto and celebration of the many innovative contemporary makers that Amsterdam hosts. Over these three days approximately 50 independent choreographers, musicians, artists, dramatists and thinkers from different generations and backgrounds come together to share knowledge, develop concepts, meet coleagues and present their ideas to the public. The participants will utilize the space and time in a way that has not been possible elsewhere in our current and recent climate. The works will offer a range whether it is a short try-out performance, an interdisciplinary dance piece, a multimedia lecture, a workshop, an artistic manifesto or a performance in print; rough, unpolished, exploring, visionary and challenging. During COME TOGETHER #3 both creators and audiences get the chance to discover and experience the work in all its facets within one context.

COME TOGETHER is produced by NBprojects and NeverLike in co-production withTILT, Frascati and BAU and supported by Veem House for Performance and ICK.

Spectra Lab DAS Research

Spectra - space as an organism research is supported by the research grant from DAS Research. In January 2017, Julia and Andrea will work with Vinny Jones, hosted by DAS Research at the Grootlab theatre space.  We will look into the relationship between light and value working with a sliding scale of daylight at sunrise and sunset in overlap with the artificially produced lighting in the theatre space.

Come Together #3

18 Jan to 20 Jan

A new performance by Andrea Božić and Julia Willms | TILT

10-11 November 2016, 19.00 hrs, Frascati, Amsterdam

Space as an organism.

A building as a mental construct.

A performance as a passage.

We are happy to invite you to the Episode 1 of The Passage, a performance that passes through a theatre in collaboration with the weather and the city. For The Passage, we have been collecting dreams – our own and other people’s nighttime dreams and daytime projections – mapping and weaving them into narratives of spaces. The performance is a passage through a labyrinth of spaces in and around Frascati that is both internal and external at the same time.

The Passage: Episode 1 is the first version of the performance that marks the end of the research phase and that will evolve into a larger performance in 2017. It will be followed by a conversation with the audience.

The Passage is part of Spectra – space as an organism, a long term project we have been developing the past year where we engage with the whole space and the audience’s presence in it as part of the work. There is no position outside. In Spectra, we are not in the space but we are space. Spectra is a practice, a cosmology-in-the-making and a friendship.

Concept, choreography, spatial design and performance Andrea Božić and Julia Willms  Artistic collaboration and production support Marta Krešić and Lana Šprajcar Light and technical support Marion Tränkle With many thanks to Mala Kline who introduced us to her dream practice. With many thanks to the dreamers Erin Hill, Marta Krešić, Orion Maxted, Lana Šprajcar, Catarina Vleira, a.o.

Produced by TILT. Spectra project development has been made possible by the financial contribution of the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, the Mondriaan Fund and the research subsidy of DAS Research.

A passage is a space in-between spaces. A no man’s land.  It is not a space. It is a passage. An arcade. A tunnel. A cave. A womb. Here I am a traveller. A hunter. A spy. A migrant. A voyeur. There are other passengers around. We are passengers to each other.

It could happen that we stay in the passage forever. We would keep travelling. We would keep passing. The passage might take us someplace we do not know yet. We would keep travelling to go places we do not know yet. Places we do not know yet what they are. We would keep passing to go places where we do not know yet who we are there.
